Hmmm…….

Kopi Bengkulu vs. Kopi Sidikalang

Bengkulu Coffee vs. Sidikalang Coffee
One day, I was surprised that an email-pal, Shanty, asked me whether I wanted to taste coffee from Bengkulu or not. What? Well, I did not say no for coffee. Impossible! So we arranged sometime to meet each other in one of my favorite café in Sudirman area.
During our meeting, the shy Shanty handed over a big plastic bag of Bengkulu coffee. Shanty asked the coffee from her friend just for me. The family of her friend has a coffee plantation back in Bengkulu. (Wow, what a nice person you are, Shanty. Thanx). Shanty admitted that she does not like coffee bean that much as she prefers to drink instant coffee to kill her sleepy feeling.
When I explained that the quality of the coffee would go bad when we keep the coffee for the longer time, she was then sorry not to give the coffee right after she received the coffee from her friend. Then I said that was okay. Well, if it is a new kind coffee that I had never tasted, then I do not care as long as it is still in good condition. Yup, Bengkulu coffee is new to my mouth. Besides, although she had kept the coffee for two weeks, I think the condition of the coffee was still good as I still can smell its strong aroma even before I opened the plastic bag. It had a chocolate aroma. Chocolate? I was surprised too that I would experience a chocolate flavor from this coffee. Very interesting!
At home, as I opened the plastic bag, the color of the coffee was dark brown. As I smell the coffee bean, a strong chocolate flavor came to my nose. When I mixed the coffee with a hot water, I can smell a mix of chocolate aroma and Robusta coffee aroma. The smell is between smooth and deep. When I drunk the coffee, the taste was so smooth, but surprise that the chocolate aroma that I smell did not reflected in my mouth. My mouth said that the coffee is purely Robusta and had a deep taste but still smooth. Aha! This is why I like the process of coffee cupping. Sometimes you cannot judge the taste of a coffee from its aroma as the aroma might be different from the taste.
I compared the Bengkulu coffee with Sidikalang coffee that I received from Tiur. (Thanx, Tiur). The brand of the Sidikalang coffee is Sarang Tawon (Bees' Nest) and produced by Tunggal Jaya Prima in Medan . The taste of the two coffees was almost the same, but still the Sidikalang coffee is stronger in aroma, smell and taste, and of course without the chocolate aroma. For those who wanted a similar coffee like Sidikalang coffee but could not tolerate its strong character, I may suggest to try the Bengkulu coffee. Almost all aspects of Bengkulu coffee is the same like Sidikalang coffee, only it comes in a softer version.
Yep, nice to drink this Bengkulu coffee in a moment when you really want to enjoy smooth coffee, maybe in the afternoon with some friends and with a light topic to talk about. Hmmm….
Have a nice cup of coffee!!!

Waktu jalan-jalan di Kelapa Gading Mall, tiba-tiba kok saya nyium bau yang enak banget ya. Hmmm, bau kayu manis!
He he he!
Hm….
Salam,
Astrid

CinnZeo - Second Visit
CinnZeo
Mal Kelapa Gading 3
Ground Floor, #51
Tel: 021-4585-3904 / 4585-3905
As I walked down at the Kelapa Gading Mall, I suddenly smelled something nice. It’s cinnamon! Yep, I am familiar with this smell. This must be CinnZeo, the café that I visited several months ago. Surprise that the smell is still the same.
As I entered the café, as usual, I always asked what the most recommended food from the café. So standard! The waiter at the restaurant suggested that I talked to the supervisor of the café, Rizal. Rizal himself suggested that I ordered Cinnaroll, Pecaroll and Coffee Toffee Caramel.
The Cinnaroll: When the roll comes, I was attacked by the cinnamon smells from the roll. (Okay, this is a cinnamon roll, so what’s your problem, Trid?) This roll looks so nice. Above the roll, you can see white cream that looks like snow covering the mountain. When I bite it, I can taste the sweetness of the white cream. Rizal said that the white cream is made from Philadelphian cream cheese. As I eat the bread, the bread is so crunchy and so chewy. The bread is made from Canadian wheat. I can also taste the cinnamon and the brown sugar between the bread and the cream. Hmm….. Rizal said the cinnamon is imported from Siam. Well, guys, what a long way to go! From Philadelphia to Canada to Siam and all end up in….my mouth. Yeah!!
The Pecaroll: this roll is almost the same like Cinnaroll. The different is only that this roll is added with pecan nut above the roll and caramel inside. The roll is still chewy, but you need to chew the roll a bit longer, of course for the pecan nut. The smell is also a bit different. There’s a baked pecan nut smell between the cinnamon smell. Hm….
Coffee Toffee Caramel: This drink is interesting. I feel like drinking milk with sand. What’s inside? Rizal said that the drink is a blend of mix powder, milk and ice cube. The mix powder is secretly made in Canada. So secret that he didn’t wanna tell me what it is. Yeah, right!!
With the kindest of the barista working in the café, I also tried to make my own espresso. The coffee machine that the café uses is an Italian coffee machine, Lamarzocco. First, I need to take the grinded coffee bean from its place. This café uses Lavazza coffee. I just have to put a toggle under the box and press the button at the right side of the box. One time press is enough for a single shot espresso. After that, I need to place the toggle under the coffee machine and turn it around tightly. My mistake is that I did not turn it around tightly that my espresso is broken. The crema is broken!! Ah, maybe I better enjoy the coffee made by the real barista. Easier to drink than to make!!!
I must admit that the roll in CinnZeo is delicious. I must come back then soon. But it is so sad that CinnZeo is only available in Kelapa Gading, which is very far from my home. Hikssss!!!! They used to have one branch in Surabaya, but already closed down.
Cheers!!!
